Teddy for President
Teddy Mather's Campaign to Make National Parks a National Priority
NPCA's presidential candidate Teddy Mather--named for President Teddy Roosevelt and Stephen Mather, the first Park Service director--campaigned in the 2008 election on a platform of making national parks a national priority. His campaign, though fictitious, had a very real purpose: to make sure that national parks issues were included in the dialog of the Presidential race.
Over 45,000 supporters signed our petition which Teddy delivered to each of the presidential candidates, asking them to make national parks a national priority. In addition, three leading candidates responded to our questions on park funding, air pollution, and the significance of the park system.* Read President Barack Obama's responses.
Even though the 2008 election is over, you can still help make sure that the new Administration and Congress make a national commitment to reinvest, restore, and reinvigorate our National Park System in time for their second century. Sign our petition, which we will be delivering to Congress and the new Administration, making your voice heard on our national parks. Take Action!
*As a nonpartisan, independent membership organization focused solely on our national parks, NPCA neither endorses nor promotes political candidates.
