Meet The Regional Council, Charles Maynard

The National Parks Conservation Association is fortunate to have a group of individuals in the Southeast Region who are committed to the health and well being of our National Parks. Those individuals sit on the Southeast Regional Council and work with NPCA staff to protect parks in the region and across the country. We want to introduce you to Charles Maynard, a Regional Council member.

Charles Maynard serves as Development Officer for Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries in the Holston Methodist Conference. Charles and his wife Janice live in Jonesborough Tennessee, and have two beautiful daughters, Caroline and Anna. Janice, a former schoolteacher, is having great success in her second career as a romance novelist. Charles, a native of Chattanooga, grew up among civil war cannons and monuments along Missionary Ridge. “National Parks have always been an important part of my life,” says Charles. “I think it is vital for a nation to preserve its natural history as well as its history. I’m excited to work with NPCA on issues that protect America’s treasures.” Charles was founding director of Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He has authored several books on the Smokies, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park and serves on the National Parks Over-Flight Advisory Committee.
