NPCA Opens Blue Ridge Field Office In Asheville

This summer a new tenant moved into Downtown Asheville’s Grove Arcade. The National Parks Conservation Association has opened the Blue Ridge Field Office in the Arcade to concentrate park protection efforts in North Carolina. “The Blue Ridge Parkway is undergoing the most important planning period since its inception says Greg Kidd, Senior Program Manager and director of the field office. The Transportation Plan and General Management Plan will have lasting impacts on the park. NPCA’s goal is to insure the parkway retains its integrity as a scenic byway.” Kidd’s work also includes chairing the Stop I-3 Coalition, a collection of conservation groups and citizens working to stop a proposed interstate through the mountains of rural western North Carolina. Kidd coordinates NPCA’s Great Smoky Mountains campaign as well, working with the Greater Smoky Mountains Coalition to halt the building of a road along the north shore of Fontana Lake.
