On July 17, 2013, the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) will recognize 157 representatives in the current Congress for their voting record in the last Congress (112th) with a Friend of the National Parks Award.
Recipients of the award receive a framed reproduction of a color poster of Sequoia National Park in the style of the Works Progress Administration posters produced for the National Park Service in the 1930s.
The Friend of the National Parks Award was established in 1999 to track and publicize congressional members’ votes on significant national park issues. This year, NPCA compiled votes for seven national park-related bills in the House. To receive the award, representatives had to vote correctly at least four out of seven times. Due to an insufficient number of roll call votes on national park-related legislation in the Senate during the 112th Congress, we were unable to compile a scorecard to assess the voting records of senators.
