The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is located within the Louis Armstrong Park while the headquarters are located nearby in the French Quarter District of New Orleans. I stopped by the park unexpectedly on a Wednesday in March 2008 and was pleased to discover the park offers free lunch time jazz concerts. I heard a performance by a "stride" pianist. I really enjoyed it. I suggest calling ahead and learning what events and musical performances are planned. If nighttime crowds aren't quite your cup of tea, this may be a perfect way to hear some jazz in the French Quarter. The concerts are free and seats are on a first come, first serve basis, so I would suggest arriving 5 to 10 minutes early.
