The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is located within the Louis Armstrong Park while the headquarters are located nearby in the French Quarter District of New Orleans. The Park celebrates the origins and evolution of jazz music. Live music is the overarching appeal of the Park, with daily concerts and monthly jazz festivals. Interpretive programs are impressive and include ranger led music demonstrations, as well as local volunteer musician demonstrations.

The Park continues to grow with both local financial support and increased cultural richness. In the near future, the Park Service plans to create a world class New Orleans Jazz Museum in partnership with the Louisiana State Museum.

We were there in February, 2009 and saw the park rangers perform with Louis Ford! It was fantastic, informative and free!! Unbelievable!!! Can't wait to go back again this year!

I swung by the visitor enter on April 9 2009 around the noon hour and was treated to a trio consisting of two guitarists and a piano/harmonica player. It was very enjoyable and the two park rangers were quite informative. definitely worth a look.

I stopped by the park unexpectedly on a Wednesday in March 2008 and was pleased to discover the park offers free lunch time jazz concerts. I heard a performance by a "stride" pianist. I really enjoyed it. I suggest calling ahead and learning what events and musical performances are planned. If nighttime crowds aren't quite your cup of tea, this may be a perfect way to hear some jazz in the French Quarter. The concerts are free and seats are on a first come, first serve basis, so I would suggest arriving 5 to 10 minutes early.
