I love the Kern River. It is so relaxing and a nice way to get away from the hussle and bussle of the city. I have been going up there now for the 8 years and will continue to go. Relaxing by the water fishing and rafting down the river is a great way to spend your time up there. Taking kids is a great experience too. Lots of birds and other wildlife. I have even had the luxury of seeing a big brown bear accross the river a couple years ago. Will never forget that.
