Third Annual National Parks Family Day

To educate families about Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks, the Central Valley Field Office teamed up with the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (CCHCC) in 2004 to create National Parks Family Day.

In a county where the Hispanic population is nearly 50 percent, only 8 percent of visitors to nearby Yosemite National Park are of Hispanic descent. National Parks Family Day aims to bring the “parks to the people”. The event takes place in July at Roeding Park in Fresno and exposes the local community, specifically the growing Hispanic community within Fresno County, to the National Park System.

Family Day participants have the opportunity to meet park rangers, and learn about park wildlife, and natural and cultural history. Educational activities and entertainment are designed to create an awareness and interest in the national parks. Families will also be entertained by cultural dance and music group performances.

Along with NPCA and the CCHCC, Family Day was organized by Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks, Delaware North Corporation, and the Yosemite Association.
