Message From Theresa Pierno From the forests in the north to the deserts in the south, NPCA has been keeping a tab on the critical issues facing California national parks. This summer has been a particularly busy one, not only for NPCA staff, but also for national park supporters like Everett and Marilyn Norcross of Fresno, who have been inspiring leaders in our Central Valley campaign. This edition showcases an exciting, long-overdue restoration project at Redwoods National Park, and a major battle recently won by the conservation community regarding the proposed Eagle Mountain garbage dump.
Also featured in this issue is the disturbing proposal to rewrite the National Park Service’s management policies that threatens to erode decades-old protections for national parks. As the nation’s leading park advocacy organization, we share the concerns expressed by park professionals that these policy revisions depart radically from the fundamental stewardship ethic that has preserved our national parks from their beginning.
NPCA continues to monitor this dangerous rewrite, to ensure that protecting America’s national parks for future generations is, and should remain, the #1 priority of the National Park Service. We look forward to your continued commitment to help spur more success stories.
