What We Do: Current Regional Issues

- Restoring Native Species: Washington State is in the process of developing a Wolf Conservation and Management plan to handle grey wolves as they return to the state. NPCA is working to ensure a viable population will be dispersed throughout the state and return to the North Cascades, Mount Rainier, and Olympic.
- Protecting Public Access: NPCA will work with our national parks, including Mount Rainier, to maintain appropriate public access to our most treasured areas.
- Expanding the System: Several parks in the Northwest, including the North Cascades and Oregon Caves, have areas needed to better protect natural and cultural resources. We are working with allies and congress to complete these parks.
- Removal of Exotic Species: Each year NPCA is involved in several work parties, including National Trails Day where we work to restore areas of North Cascades National Park, including removing exotic species.
- Congressional Capacity: NPCA will also work on identifying and grooming northwest congressional champions for the parks. We will pay particular attention to reaching out to non-traditional allies such as gateway communities in this effort.
- Protecting Habitat: NPCA plays a leadership role each year at National Public Lands Day at Mount Rainier and the Coastal Cleanup at Olympic National Park. At these events we do everything from planting native plant at Paradise, to removing tons of litter from the Kalaloch area.
