Knowing that the School Land Board is meeting today to consider the National Park Service’s offer to purchase the Christmas Mountains, the National Parks Conservation Association issued the following statement from Texas Field Office Senior Program Manager Suzanne Dixon:

"The National Parks Conservation Association’s 14,000 members here in Texas, and our 340,000 members nationwide, are calling on Commissioner Patterson and the School Land Board to accept the National Park Service’s proposal to acquire the Christmas Mountains and add them to Big Bend National Park. The Christmas Mountains are a treasure that belongs to all Americans. We’re calling on Commissioner Patterson to keep this incredible wilderness landscape in public hands and support the public consensus that the Christmas Mountains are best preserved if part of Big Bend."
