Vic Fazio Joins Board of National Park Group
Washington, D.C. – Victor H. Fazio, senior advisor at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and longtime member of Congress representing California’s third district, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). The board is the governing body for the nonprofit park watchdog organization.
“Vic championed national park issues for 20 years as a member of Congress and ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee,” said NPCA President Tom Kiernan. “He understands that it is vital for our national parks to be adequately funded and protected before their centennial, and he will be a tremendous addition to our Board of Trustees.”
Since 2005, Fazio has served as senior advisor at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and before that worked as senior partner at Clark & Weinstock. Prior to that, he served as a member of Congress for 20 years representing California’s third congressional district. During that time, he served as a member of the Armed Services, Budget and Ethics Committees and was a member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he served as subcommittee chair or ranking member for 18 years.
Fazio was a member of the elected Democratic Leadership in the House from 1991-1998, including four years as chair of the Democratic Caucus – the third ranking position in the party. From 1975-1978, he served in the California Assembly and was a member of the staff of the California Assembly Speaker prior to that.
Fazio serves on numerous boards, including Northrop Grumman, Ice Energy, Inc., Peyton Street Independent Financial Services, the California Institute, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, the Campaign Finance Institute, Energy Future Coalition, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Center for Strategic Budgetary Assessments, The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, UC Davis Medical School Advisory Board and the UC Davis Foundation.
Since 1919, the nonpartisan NPCA has been the leading voice of the American people in the fight to safeguard our National Park System. NPCA, its members, and partners work together to protect the park system and preserve our nation's natural, historical, and cultural heritage for generations to come.
