Parks Group Thanks House for Advancing Protections for Oregon Caves National Monument
Statement by NPCA Policy Director Sean Smith
“The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) thanks Rep. DeFazio and the House Natural Resources Committee for their efforts to increase protections for Oregon Caves National Monument in southwest Oregon.
“If passed, the current bill (HR 2889) would add approximately 4,000 acres to Oregon Caves by transferring land from the U.S. Forest Service to the National Park Service, and will benefit the regional economy, protect public drinking water, and increase recreational opportunities for visitors.
“The increased protections for Oregon Caves will ensure that a national treasure in Oregon’s backyard remains protected for our children and grandchildren.”
