National Parks Conservation Association to Host Ken Burns, Honor Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at Annual Dinner

WHAT:  National Parks Conservation Association’s annual Salute to the Parks dinner

WHO:   Acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns to offer a sneak peek of his forthcoming documentary, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea; Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to be honored for his work on behalf of America’s national parks before 300 guests.

WHEN:  April 1, 2009 Reception at 6:30 PM; program starts at 7:15 PM

WHERE:  Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, 1301 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.

Ken Burns is releasing his new documentary, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, in September 2009; he and his partner, writer Dayton Duncan, will share their thoughts about the National Park System and lessons learned making the film with Salute to the Parks dinner guests.

NPCA will also present its prestigious William Penn Mott, Jr. Park Leadership Award to Sen. Reid for his support for national parks. Since 1980, NPCA has presented the annual Mott award to a public official who has shown an outstanding commitment to the protection of our national heritage.

Since 1919, the nonpartisan, nonprofit NPCA has been the leading voice of the American people in protecting and enhancing our National Park System. NPCA, its 340,000 members, and partners work together to protect the park system and preserve our nation’s natural, historic, and cultural heritage for generations to come.
