National Parks Conservation Association Alerts Online Members of Vendor's Security Breach
Press Statement by NPCA President Tom Kiernan
“The company we contract with to provide online services, Convio, has alerted NPCA that it has identified a breach of one of their internet security systems by an outside party. Many nonprofits, associations, and higher education institutions have been affected, including NPCA. Convio has told us that the breach was limited in scope—there was no breach of credit card or personally identifiable information such as names and street addresses.
“It is, however, possible that the email addresses and passwords used by our online members for managing their NPCA email subscriptions were obtained by an unauthorized third-party as part of this breach. NPCA has taken appropriate counter measures, and has alerted our members accordingly.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this incident may cause. We are serious about the privacy of our members, and are committed to protecting it. Convio assures us that it has taken steps to ensure that a breach of this kind will not happen again. Any members with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact NPCA by email or at 800.NAT.PARK.”
