National Parks Conservation Association Congratulates Senator Burr on Appointment to Senate Subcommittee on National Parks
Press Statement by National Parks Conservation Association Blue Ridge Senior Program Manager Gregory Kidd
“The National Parks Conservation Association congratulates Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) for his appointment as ranking Republican member on the National Parks Subcommittee of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
“North Carolina has 12 magnificent national park sites that play a key role in the state’s economy and quality of life. Having a senator from the southeast in a position of leadership on the subcommittee will no doubt provide an important and fresh perspective.
“Senator Burr has already demonstrated his leadership on national park issues by encouraging the protection of additional lands around the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site. We look forward to working closely with Senator Burr in seeking practical, consensus-building solutions to the many and varied challenges facing North Carolina’s national parks, and parks across the country, and seizing opportunities presented by the centennial of the National Park System in 2016.”
The National Parks Conservation Association will testify before the National Parks Subcommittee of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on Thursday, August 2, about the National Park Centennial Challenge, which would match federal funding with private contributions to fund national park projects and programs.
