New Snowmobile Rule Benefits Apostle Islands Visitors and the Park
Washington, D.C. - “The National Park Service’s new rule governing the use of snowmobiles at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is a good idea for the park and a good idea for visitors.
Under this sensible rule, snowmobiles and off-road vehicles can be used as a means of transportation to a specific park location —- essential given Lake Superior’s frequently-frozen surface. Additionally, the park mandates sensible use of such vehicles so that visitors can access existing hunting, fishing, and trapping areas with minimal impact on the environment and the experiences of other visitors. Clearly, the Park Service respects local history, and has made a decision consistent with the park’s authorizing legislation.”
