Stephen Lockhart Joins Board of National Parks Conservation Association

Washington, D.C. – Stephen H. Lockhart, chief medical officer for Sutter Health’s East Bay Region in California, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). The board is the governing body for the nonprofit, which is the nation’s leading voice for national parks.

“Stephen Lockhart is both well-respected in the healthcare industry, and a tireless advocate for national parks and the environment,” said NPCA President Tom Kiernan. “We are very excited about what he brings to NPCA’s board.”

Prior to joining Sutter Health, Lockhart served as vice president and chief administrative officer at the St. Luke’s Hospital Campus of California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He was medical director of surgical services for the preceding seven years.

Lockhart is currently chair of the Board of Directors of NatureBridge, an organization that provides environmental science education to 40,000 young people annually in the national parks. He is an avid climber and backpacker, and has a long-standing passion for the environment, education, and mentorship of young people. He is particularly interested in providing environmental science education and exposing our national parks to an increasingly diverse population.

Lockhart is a member of the National Parks Second Century Commission, an independent group of respected leaders and experts who have convened to articulate a vision for the second century of the National Park Service. The Commission’s recommendations to Congress, the Administration, and the American people will be published in September. For more information on the commission, please visit: www.visionfortheparks.org.

Since 1919, the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association has been the leading voice of the American people in the fight to safeguard our National Park System. NPCA, its members, and partners work together to protect the park system and preserve our nation’s natural, historical, and cultural heritage for our children and grandchildren.
