National Parks Conservation Association mourns loss of Golden Gate National Recreation Area superintendent Brian O’Neill
STATEMENT BY: Ron Sundergill, Pacific Region Director
"The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) is deeply saddened by the loss of Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) superintendent Brian O’Neill. Brian possessed magnetic leadership abilities and was a tireless advocate for the creation, development, and preservation of GGNRA-one of the most exceptional recreation areas in the National Park System.
"Brian’s creative approach to involving community partners was inspiring, as was his ability to engage diverse perspectives to get things done. Under his leadership, GGNRA became a model in the National Park Service for encouraging urban youth and empowering diverse communities to experience our national parks. The national parks will benefit from Brian’s lessons, leadership, and legacy for years to come.
"He will be deeply missed; we extend our sympathy to his family."
