Climate Change and the California Desert Conference

WHAT: Climate change conference featuring expert presentations and research about the impact of climate change on the desert ecosystem. Participants will also have an opportunity to provide input about how our local communities can safeguard our environment. The conference will feature an art contest on display at the Roadside Attraction Art Gallery and a world café forum encouraging conference attendees to share diverse perspectives about climate change.

Hosted by the National Parks Conservation Association, Defenders of Wildlife, The Wildlands Conservancy, the Mojave Desert Land Trust, The Living Desert, The Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council, Copper Mountain College, The Mojave National Preserve and Joshua Tree National Park.

WHO: =Nobel Laureate Jean Brennan (Defenders of Wildlife) on the impacts of climate change on desert wildlife, as well as management strategies to help them adapt.

=Kirsten Ironside (Northern Arizona University) on the declining range of Joshua Trees.

=Dr. Lynn Fenstermaker (Desert Research Institute) on carbon sequestration in the Mojave Desert.

=Bill Powers (engineer) on the Sunrise Power Link, Green Path North and the local generation of energy.
