House Action Can Protect Grand Canyon from Mining

The U.S. House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee today voted in support of a resolution requiring the removal of designated public lands adjacent to Grand Canyon National Park from mineral entry. A statement by National Parks Conservation Association Southwest Regional Office Director David Nimkin follows:

"Thanks to bold and needed action today by the House Natural Resources Committee, we hope that America's most treasured icon, Grand Canyon National Park, will not be harmed by mining. We now look to the Administration to honor this emergency resolution, and seek the support of Congress to pass pending legislation that would permanently protect the Grand Canyon for our children and grandchildren."
