National Parks Conservation Association Mourns Loss of Representative Tom Lantos
Press Statement by NPCA Vice President for Government Affairs Craig Obey
"The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) is deeply saddened by the loss of Rep. Tom Lantos today. He was a champion for America’s national parks and received NPCA's "Friend of the National Parks" award three times in recognition of his support for important legislation affecting the National Park System.
Additionally, Rep. Lantos' dedication to the protection of open space in California was evident in his ability to add more than 4,500 acres in San Mateo County to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. His legislation will guarantee that a number of threatened or endangered plant and animal species will be protected for this and future generations.
He will be deeply missed and we extend our sympathy to his family."
