"In passing the Revised Continuing Resolution for 2007, Congress went the extra mile to address the needs of the national parks and other public lands, and we’re very grateful," said NPCA President Tom Kiernan. "Their emphasis on meeting basic operating needs will help the National Park Service makes ends meet this year, serve the public, and protect natural and cultural resources more effectively than would otherwise have been the case."

The fiscal year 2007 appropriation provides $67 million more for the National Park Service’s major accounts than was enacted for fiscal year 2006, including $50-million more for operations and $17 million more for land acquisition and state assistance. The bill also restores the Park Service’s construction account to 2006 levels.

"This budget demonstrates the kind of commitment Congress can build upon as it begins considering the budget request for 2008. A combination of strong funding in fiscal years 2007 and 2008 will be a significant step toward restoring our national treasures and providing visitors the unforgettable experiences our parks are known for. Taking care of America’s national parks should be a national priority," Kiernan added.
