Senate Passes Bill to Help Everglades Restoration

Statement by Everglades Restoration Program Manager Sara Fain

“Tonight, Congress demonstrated their commitment to Everglades restoration by passing the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA)—a critical and welcomed step toward restoring the natural sheetflow of our historic River of Grass.  This bill – seven years in the making – will advance restoration efforts overcoming decades of destruction that has left Everglades National Park one of our most threatened national parks.

We applaud Senator Bill Nelson, Senator Mel Martinez, and the entire Florida delegation for advancing critical Everglades restoration projects and ensuring the long-term preservation of this national treasure.

We call upon the President to show the Administration's support for Everglades restoration by signing this bill into law. Restoring the health of America's Everglades should remain a national priority.”
