NPCA statement on acquisition of land from the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, Gateway Arch

Statement by Lynn McClure, Midwest Regional Director, NPCA

There are time-tested processes for the National Park Service that help guide and frame how we look at the opportunities for the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, Gateway Arch. The National Parks Conservation Association recommends adhering to those guidelines and carefully considering the options available that would expand the dialog and satisfy all parties.

The leaders of St. Louis are naturally interested in improving the riverfront and enhancing the area around the Gateway Arch. While keeping that in mind, we need to remember that the Arch and the park surrounding it belong to the people of the United States, not just the residents of St. Louis.
