Mary Bomar Welcomed as New Director

Press Statement by NPCA President Tom Kiernan

We are eager to continue working with Mary Bomar, now in her new capacity as director of the National Park Service. She is a career park professional with proven leadership and invaluable on-the-ground experience ensuring that America’s landscapes are protected and their diverse, inspiring stories are shared with generations of visitors.

We have already worked with her in the northeast region to our pleasure, and now look forward to working with Mary to secure greater protections and funding for all of our national parks.

President Bush’s new National Park Centennial Challenge, announced by Sec. Kempthorne last month, can provide significant new federal funding to restore the faded glory of our national parks in time for their 100th birthday in 2016. Mary Bomar’s personal commitment to protecting and enhancing the National Park System will be key to securing this victory for our national heritage.
