Statement by Thomas C. Kiernan, NPCA President, on Secretary Norton’s Re-Designation of Great Sand Dunes

- “Great Sand Dunes is now recognized and preserved as another jewel in the National Park System. Thanks to the great foresight of Sen. Wayne Allard and Rep. Scott McInnis, current and future generations can forever enjoy the spectacular 700-foot-high dunes and biologically significant desert landscape of Great Sand Dunes National Park.

“We need bipartisan support in Congress and the administration to ensure that Great Sand Dunes and all of our national parks remain the world-class resource they are intended to be. Just as my family did this summer, all American families should have the opportunity to enjoy this impressive place and all of the parks within the system—as they were meant to be enjoyed—fully staffed and fully funded.”
