Statement by Courtney Cuff on Veto of Southern California Water Project

Oakland, California - With the Southern California Metropolitan Water District board of directors' decision to vote down the Cadiz, Inc., groundwater storage and delivery project, California's deserts are protected from a potential disaster. We couldn't hope for a better outcome to this environmentally flawed and economically unsound proposal. The Metropolitan Water District had the courage to stand up to gluttonous corporate interests and prevent damage to priceless national treasures.
NPCA has been one of the leading voices of opposition to the project, and we're thrilled to know our concerns, and the concerns of the thousands of Californians who opposed this senseless plan, were heard. Senator Feinstein has also played a large role in voicing citizen concerns by repeatedly expressing serious reservations about the environmental consequences of the project. Our national parks, our wilderness areas, the more than 500,000 annual visitors to Mojave National Preserve, and all of California's residents are better off for this decision.
