- Take Action:Your letters can help protect national seashores, coral reefs, and wetlands.
- Clean up your site. Pack out food wrappers, empty beverage containers, and other trash once you've had your fill of fun in the sun. If you see other trash on the beach, be sure to pick that up too.
- Share the beach. If you spot a nesting habitat—whether for sea turtles or wood storks—give it some consideration. Moving your beach blanket 20 or 30 yards down the beach will allow wildlife to focus on their nests rather than on you.
- Watch where you walk. To you it may simply look like miles and miles of sand. But to millions of tiny crustaceans, reptiles, and insects, it's home sweet home.
- Keep your dog on a leash at all times. Not only can your pet be a nuisance to other beach-goers, it may also wage serious unrest upon nesting birds and other marine mammals.
- Avoid driving all-terrain vehicles on the beach. They're dirty, unsightly, loud and, what's more, completely unnecessary. They don't belong on the beach, and the damage they do is frequently irreparable.
- Sign Up for Parklines. NPCA will send you free weekly emails to keep you posted on the latest park happenings and what you can do to help.
