Job Title: Biscayne Restoration Program Analyst

Primary Purpose:
Working with the Everglades Restoration Program Manager and Regional Director, the Biscayne Restoration Program Analyst will design and oversee implementation of a campaign to protect the resources of the Southern Everglades wetlands that drain into Biscayne and Florida Bays. As part of NPCA’s larger effort to protect and restore the Everglades, the Analyst will lead efforts focused on Biscayne National Park, Biscayne Bay restoration objectives, and preservation in the Southern Everglades ecosystem.
Essential Functions:
- Design and implement programs to protect Biscayne National Park resources and surrounding buffer lands. Work with program team to develop strategies to carry out Everglades restoration program goals. Work closely with national park staff, and other federal and state agencies. 30%
- Conduct research and technical analysis of and write comments on national park planning documents, Everglades restoration plans, and Everglades-related scientific and policy documents. 15%
- Create outreach tools including presentations, fact sheets, written testimony, and other text to educate elected officials, the public, and grasstops individuals. Coordinate NPCA role in public meetings and deliver testimony at hearings. 15%
- Develop and implement media strategy including press releases, coordinate National Parks magazine articles, press conferences, opinion-editorials, action alerts, etc. 10%
- Identify, in coordination with the team, and engage members, local park stakeholders including recreational groups, other conservation organizations, local businesses, key local citizens, and decision-makers in effort to protect Biscayne National Park. 10%
- Contribute to the fundraising efforts of the team through maintaining relationships with donors and foundations, assistance in writing proposals and reports, and marketing NPCA programs to existing and potential donors, as directed by the Regional and Development Directors. 10%
- Provide support to other Sun Coast regional priorities and national priorities of NPCA, as directed by the Regional Director. 10%
Other: Promotes policies that are sensitive to the needs of a diverse workforce. Respect employees regardless of their position or background. Participates in administrative staff meetings, organization-wide meetings, staff committee meetings, training programs, and attends other meetings and seminars as designated by the supervisor. Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm, some weekend work required. Significant regional travel required for meetings and events. National travel required approximately five times a year for meetings and retreats.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in science, engineering, government, environmental science, or related field desired or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in science-related field preferred.
- Two years of combined experience in conservation advocacy, resource management, or historic/cultural preservation. Preference for familiarity with the process of Everglades restoration and the state and local agencies involved.
- Preference for knowledge of national park system and public land issues.
- Proven excellent written and oral communications skills, including one on one, in groups, and in public presentations.
- Proven ability to self-start, self-motivate and be productive in an individualize workplace environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams to organize tasks, to set and observe priorities, and to maintain schedules.
- Proven ability to build relationships across political and interest boundaries and work well with a variety of individuals and organizations, and to build coalitions.
- Demonstrated analytical abilities related to project management, and reviewing environmental impact statements and other governmental documents related to wetlands restoration.
- Efficient using the Internet to do research and basic computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Conversational Spanish a plus.
