Retreat!

On the 3rd day of a 25-day backpacking trip, we encountered a glacier where there wasn't supposed to be a glacier, in the Wrangell Mountains of southeast Alaska. After determining that there was no way around this particular ice-field, we reversed course and arranged to have our food air re-supply dropped elsewhere. This is the kind of epic smackdown from mother nature that one only encounters in wilderness, and Alaskan wilderness in particular.
