Item on my bucket list

By Paul Wilding

Several years ago I was able to cross off one item on my bucket list. I had retired and was able to be a seasonal ranger at the Peaks of Otter area of the Blue Ridge Parkway. My main job was to interpret an 1800's mountain farm. The visitors were fascinated on how the people survived under very difficult conditions. Last summer there was insufficient money for staffing and keeping the farm open for visitors. It is sad that people were unable to enjoy the experience of visiting the farm and learning of the way of life.
