I Don't Feel Quite as Helpless

Our family watched with great alarm and sadness as wildfires changed the terrain of our beloved Rocky Mountain National Park in 2011. We were hundreds of miles away and could only follow internet and media reports, but we have spent so many wonderful weeks camping in Moraine Park with only a tent between us and the glorious mountains, and it felt like watching a dear friend battle for her life. Once again, this park and now, all the others, are fighting against horrible odds, but this time I don't feel quite so helpless. This time I am able to help. I can't imagine our lives without the memories we have of national parks across this great nation. I want other people and families to have the opportunity to make their memories this summer, too.
