Blue Ridge Parkway

By Lee Reed
May 29, 2013

My significant other and I have been going to the Blue Ridge Mountains at least twice a year and sometimes up to four times a year. We live on the east coast of Florida, so it takes us about 11 hours of driving time to get to our destination which is Spruce Pine, NC just off of the Parkway. We usually spend 7 to 10 days up there and drive up and down the Parkway an average of 5 to 5 1/2 hours a day. There are many hiking trails to beautiful waterfalls, or magnificent mountain views. And also hiking trails from easy to strenuous grade walking through many communities of flora and fauna. It is an overall spiritual experience for us that we get nowhere else. Every year we've seen the toll taken from the pollution to government cut backs on maintenance. Hope NPCA can help.
