"OkoumeFest Ultra Marathon” on the Captain John Smith Chesapeake Trail

Date: May 19, 2013 to May 21, 2013
Location: Matapeake State Park in Stevensville, Maryland

Calling all expert boaters! NPCA is excited to partner with Chesapeake Light Craft and WaterTribe for a 64 mile expedition-style race along the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail in the Chesapeake Bay.

This unsupported adventure race (no safety boats or support crews to help you during the race) for kayaks, canoes, and small boats begins and ends at Matapeake State Park and follows a scenic route enclosing Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Expert racers are welcome to join this expedition, and enjoy the iconic natural and historical landscape of the Chesapeake Bay.

This event is in coordination with the Freedom to Float campaign in the Chesapeake watershed. NPCA and its partners are dedicated to promoting access for recreation and community stewardship while preserving treasured waters and natural landscapes.

OTHER INFO: The OFUM is run as an unsupported, expedition-style adventure races for kayaks, canoes and small boats. You should be an expert kayaker and/or sailor before you consider this challenge. Boats must be powered by paddles, oars, or sails, and must be launched from above the high tide mark without assistance.
