Seize upon a perfect long-weekend getaway on this fabulous urban-rural experience in one of the finest cities in the United States – San Francisco! Straddle the rails of city experience and unique natural ecology on this four day dash to the west coast. Take in the unique qualities that make San Francisco such a great city while going beyond the city borders for outstanding natural experiences in the rich public lands that have been so lovingly preserved and maintained in the Bay Area.

You will arrive in the early afternoon and enjoy a classic walk from the Pacific Heights neighborhood through the Presidio to the southern anchor of the Golden Gate Bridge. On your first full-day in the area the group will cross the Golden Gate and explore nearby Point Reyes National Seashore, where you will enjoy a unique sea kayak and hike experience along Tomales Bay. Your second full-day capture a getaway moment into San Francisco as you connect with abundant natural spaces and lovingly managed national parklands of the area. Base from picturesque and well-located lodging and set-out each day for fabulous hiking and exploring along beautiful coastlines and through inspiring forested spaces on this unique getaway.

Moderately active, offering a choice of activities each day to suit different activity levels and interests. Be prepared for a variety of hikes and walks on uneven trails.

Price Includes

All accommodations, meals as noted (B-Breakfast, L-Lunch, D-Dinner), ground transportation, entrance fees, professional guide services, park and other entrance fees, and miscellaneous program expenses.

Price Does Not Include

Roundtrip airfare to and from destination, gratuities for naturalist guides, alcoholic beverages, or personal expenses.

Payments/Cancellations

Space is confirmed by calling the NPCA at 800.628.7275. A $500 per person deposit is due at registration. Final payment will be invoiced separately and is due 90 days prior to departure. Cancellation notice must be submitted in writing and is effective upon date of receipt. Cancellations up to 90 days prior receive a refund, less the $250 per person handling fee. Cancellations 90-61 days prior to departure, 25% of the tour cost is forfeited; 60-31 days prior to departure, 50% of the tour cost is forfeited; 30 days or fewer prior to departure result in the loss of 100% of your total cost.

Travel Insurance

To protect yourself from the loss of deposit and cancellation fees, you are encouraged to purchase travel insurance. Information on a comprehensive travel insurance coverage plan will be included with trip confirmation packets.

Daily Itinerary

September 24: Individual Arrivals in San Francisco, CA

You will meet-up with your guides at your lodging in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of the City in the early afternoon and embark on a walk that will take you from urban confines to expertly managed public spaces in the Presidio and ultimately to the southern anchor of the famed Golden Gate Bridge. The first of your local dining experiences while on-trip will cap your day perfectly. Hotel del Sol (D)

September 25: Point Reyes National Seashore

Today is a spectacular full-day exploring north of San Francisco at Point Reyes National Seashore. Your guides will lead you to the Point Reyes in the morning for a hike and interpretation of the history and ecological significance of the peninsula. Then, it is off to Tomales Bay for a great seakayaking adventure that will take the group north along the bay. After a shoreside lunch, your guides will lead everyone on a hike through Point Reyes. Another fabulous local dinner in Marin County brings your day to a close. Hotel del Sol (B,L,D)

September 26: Muir Woods National Monument and Mt. Tamalpais State Park

After a hearty breakfast this morning you will embark on a fantastic full-day of hiking and exploring in Muir Woods National Monument and Mount Tamalpais State Park. Great options abound for hikes  through this natural landscape. Everyone will return to your hotel by mid-afternoon, leaving time for a bit of relaxing before your dinner and show this evening. Closing out this day will be a true San  Francisco treat as the group travels to the North Beach neighborhood, San Francisco’s “little Italy”, for an early dinner. Following your gastronomic delight for the day, everyone will walk to the historic Club Fugazi for a one-of-a-kind, “only in San Francisco” musical that will have everyone laughing the whole night through! September 27: Golden Gate Park and National Recreation Area

locally connected action out of your time in San Francisco, your guides will take everyone deep into the Presidio of San Francisco, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and the gem of the city, Golden Gate Park en route to the airport for flights home in the early afternoon. With a few stops and opportunity for great morning hiking, this day is perfect-built for the final, special touch to your immersive Pacific Coast Walking Weekend. (B)
