Only 4 spots remain on this winter adventure.

Capture “the Grand” at the grandest time of year as you ring in the New Year along the southern rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Enjoy a few surprises as you connect with current stewards of the park and stop in Sedona where the red-draped, hardstone backdrop perfectly frames the end of the tour.

Enjoy the benefit of great guides and unique moments on this naturalist-led journey filled with exploration and adventure. Head to Grand Canyon National Park, where we spend the first three nights. Our time in the Grand Canyon will be spent exploring the best hikes as our guides share interesting geological facts and lead the group to unique locations along the south rim. Wrap up your time in the park taking in the New Year from the historic El Tovar Hotel, situated directly on the rim.

We make our way into Sedona, embraced by stunning red sandstone cliffs. In this gorgeous red-rock outdoor playground we experience a jeep tour adventure through steep and narrow passages and are joined by an astronomer for a spectacular night of stargazing.

Daily Itinerary

December 29: Phoenix to Grand Canyon National Park

Your guide meets you this morning at a central hotel location near the Phoenix airport and you head straight for Grand Canyon National Park. We’ll do some “guide’s favorite” short hikes along the way. Thunderbird Lodge (L, D)

December 30: Grand Canyon National Park

Today we spend the whole day exploring and hiking Grand Canyon National Park. Our guides know the area’s history and natural wonders inside and out, making for a real insider’s experience of the South Rim and its famous viewpoints and features. Catching the sunset is something of a ritual in the park, and our guide gets us to the best vantage point to enjoy the show. Thunderbird Lodge (B,L,D)

December 31: Grand Canyon National Park

If you loved the sunset last night, set your alarm for the optional pre-breakfast sunrise photo opportunity. After breakfast, we have another full day exploring and hiking in the park. Ring in the New Year this evening with dinner at the fabulous El Tovar Hotel, which opened its doors in 1905 as the Grand Canyon’s luxury lodging right on the rim.  Thunderbird Lodge (B,L,D)

January 1: Grand Canyon to Sedona

An early departure this morning gets us on our way to Sedona! En route we make a stop in Flagstaff for lunch before continuing on through Oak Creek Canyon with a stop to see a natural waterslide, hike along the creek, and savor the ambience of this beautiful and fertile high desert canyon. This evening we’re joined by a special guest astronomer who literally will put stars in our eyes! We’ll view planets and stars through high-powered telescopes and learn about the composition of constellations scattered through the night’s sky. Orchards Inn (B,L,D)

January 2: Sedona, AZ

Set out this morning on a wonderful hike among the red rock monoliths of Sedona. Our outing leads to a natural bridge that offers a perfect set-up for fabulous photos from both under and atop the bridge. We have lunch back in Sedona before this afternoon’s exciting, 2-hour jeep tour. The strong little rigs display their climbing ability as they carry us to superlative viewpoints and descend steep, narrow passages. Many of your explorations on this journey will take us over the famous Southwest “slickrock,” smooth swaths of sandstone that, despite the name, provide great traction for hiking and biking. Orchards Inn (B,L,D)

January 3: Departures home from Phoenix, AZ

After breakfast and some last deep breaths of the high desert air, we drive back to Phoenix for early afternoon flights home. (B)
