Roundtrip airfare, port fees, guide gratuities, alcoholic beverages, or personal expenses.

Payments/Cancellations

Space is confirmed by calling the NPCA at 800.628.7275. A $500 per person deposit is due at registration. Final payment will be invoiced separately and is due 120 days prior to departure. Cancellation notice must be submitted in writing and is effective upon date of receipt. Cancellations up to 210 days prior receive a refund, less the $100 per person handling fee. Cancellations 209-120 days prior to departure, 50% of payment is forfeited; 119 days or fewer prior to departure result in the loss of 100% of your total cost.

To protect yourself from the loss of deposit and cancellation fees, you are encouraged to purchase travel insurance. If you need assistance, NPCA recommends contacting Travel Insurance Services.

Daily Itinerary

October 13: Arrival in New York, New York/Embarkation

Individual arrivals in New York and meet your group at the departure harbor. After boarding your ship in New York City, enjoy a delightful afternoon of cruising along the Hudson River to Lincoln Harbor, New Jersey. Each night of the trip spent aboard the American Star (D)

October 14: State Capitol at Albany, New York

The picturesque region of what is today the city of Albany was discovered by Henry Hudson in 1609 on a failed attempt to find a quick passage to China for the Dutch East India Company. Today the capital city of New York state welcomes visitors with majestic architecture and grand views of the beautiful Hudson River Valley. Be sure to explore the New York State Museum and the newly renovated State Capitol building, originally built in the late 1800’s. American Star (B,L,D)

October 15: United States Military Academy, West Point, New York

Steeped in history and tradition, the United States Military Academy at West Point offers visitors the opportunity to walk on the grandiose grounds once trekked by some of the nation’s greatest generals, like Patton, Eisenhower and MacArthur. Founded in 1802 by an act of Congress, the Academy has been of significant military importance to America since Revolutionary days. Tour the West Point Museum and Cadet Chapel and view magnificent vistas of the Hudson Valley from atop the campus grounds. American Star (B,L,D)

October 16: Kingston & Catskill, New York

With the invention of the steamboat in 1807, the Hudson River became a waterway of leisurely travel with literally hundreds of vessels making their way up and down the picturesque passage. Originally the capital of New York in the late 1700’s, today Kingston preserves the maritime heritage of the Hudson River at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. In Catskill, visit the Clarmont State Historic Site, home to Robert Livingston Jr., first minister of foregin affairs who negotiated the Louisiana Purchase and helped draft the Declaration of Independence. October 17: Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site

Spared from battle during the Revolutionary War, Poughkeepsie became the second capital of New York. In the 1800’s, due to the area’s natural beauty and proximity to New York City, families such as the Astors and Vanderbilts built palatial weekend homes nearby. Hyde Park, located just north, was the birthplace of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His estate, Springwood, is now the site of the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. October 18: Washington Irving’s Sunnyside House

The riverside town of Sleepy Hollow is forever immortalized in the works of one of the country’s first great writers, Washington Irving. The author found inspiration in the tales and scenery of the Hudson Valley as the basis for “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle.” Today Washington Irving’s country home, Sunnyside, is a Registered National Historic Landmark and welcomes visitors with legends and lore. Discover the sights, sounds and history of this extraordinary city! From South Street Seaport to Central Park and the Museum of Natural History, New York encapsulates the culture and spirit of America.
