August 3: Individual Arrivals in Phoenix, AZ
Your guide meets you this morning at a central hotel location near the Phoenix airport and you head straight for Sedona. The two-hour drive is a nice opportunity to get to know your traveling companions, and there may be stops along the way as your guides point out areas of interest. An early check-in at the hotel provides time to settle in and explore with the guide or on your own. This evening we enjoy a wonderful Sedona-style dinner. Orchards Inn (L,D)
August 4: Sedona, AZ
Set out this morning on a wonderful hike among the red rock monoliths of Sedona. Our outing leads to a natural bridge that offers a perfect set-up for fabulous photos from both under and atop the bridge. We have lunch back
in Sedona before this afternoon’s exciting, 2-hour jeep tour. The strong little rigs display their climbing ability as they carry us to superlative viewpoints and descend steep, narrow passages. Many of your explorations on this journey will take us over the famous Southwest “slickrock,” smooth swaths of sandstone that, despite the name,
provide great traction for hiking and biking. After dark we’re joined by a special guest astronomer who literally will put stars in our eyes. We’ll view planets and stars through telescopes, and learn the history and composition of
constellations. Orchards Inn (B,L,D)
August 5: Grand Canyon National Park
An early departure this morning gets us on our way to the Grand Canyon! En route we stop at Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon. Right before we enter Grand Canyon National Park we catch the eye-popping IMAX film, which is a great introduction to what we’ll be experiencing up-close with our guides after the movie! This afternoon we enjoy a picnic lunch along the rim of the canyon and a memorable exploration of the South Rim area. Dinner is at the fabulous El Tovar Hotel, which opened its doors in 1905 as the Grand Canyon’s luxury lodging right on the rim. Kachinga Lodge (B,L,D)
August 6: Grand Canyon National Park and Lake Powell
When the group circles up after breakfast, we squeeze in one last hike. Bidding good-bye to this unforgettable place, we head for Page, stopping in at the Cameron Trading Post along the way. We arrive at our Lake Powell resort in time for dinner. You can’t help but feel awed at the sight of this vast, sculptural expanse of rock and water. The play of light at sunset is unforgettable. Lake Powell Resort (B,L,D)
August 7: Zion National Park and Rainbow Bridge
Greet another bright-andearly morning on a power boat headed to Rainbow Bridge, the largest known natural bridge in the world. The 2-hour cruise over takes you by Warm Creek, Padre Bay, and the Dangling Rope marina. The bridge is a little over a half mile’s walk from the landing. In all, you have about an hour to explore and photograph this amazing landform from different angles. The land here was traditionally used by Navajo, Southern Paiute, San Juan, Ute, Kaibab, Paiute, White Mesa Ute, and Hopi peoples. We’re back by lunchtime, ready to head to the charming town of Springdale, Utah, gateway to Zion National Park. Flanigan’s Inn (B,L)
August 8: Zion National Park
Your grand finale is an immersion in the iconic canyons of Zion, with your guide selecting the perfect hike to connect you with this incredible place. At tonight’s farewell dinner, celebrate your shared experiences and the wonderful sense of belonging that comes with new friendships forged through travel. The spirit of the Southwest will linger for a long time! Flanigan’s Inn (B,L,D)
August 9: Departures Home from Las Vegas, NV
After breakfast, we leave for Las Vegas to catch flights home. Plan departures for just after noon. (B)
