Acadia National Park Experience the Acadia National Park most people just drive past. This rugged Atlantic park exists mainly on Mount Desert Island, the largest island along the coast of Maine, but also includes smaller offshore islands. Brooks and waterfalls splash down the mountainsides and the only fjord on the US Atlantic coast—which nearly cuts the island in half. Over 120 miles of trails traverse the park’s mountains and ponds, while 44 miles of carriage roads wind through the park’s eastern portions.
