The National Park System includes 391 units, each of which is designated as an International Historic Site (1), National Battlefield (11), National Battlefield Park (3), National Battlefield Site (1), National Historical Park (42), National Historic Site (79), National Lakeshore (4), National Monument (74), National Memorial (28), National Military Park (9), National Park (58), National Parkway (4), National Preserve (18), National Reserve (2), National River (5), National Recreation Area (18), National Seashore (10), National Scenic Trail (3), Wild and Scenic River (10), or simply a Unit without Designation (11). Here is a list of all 390 units, the state(s) or territory where they are located, and their designation.
Some parks are counted as individual units—such as Yellowstone. Some are counted as part of larger park units—such as Fort Caroline National Memorial, which is located within the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve in Florida. Some units are grouped with associated non-units—such as Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Alcrataz Island in California. All the indented items are contained within the place above.
