Wildlife protection and habitat preservation issues often cross physical boundaries of natural areas spanning local, state, federal, and private lands. As a result, partnerships are often promoted as the best way to address these broad reaching needs. But what is a partnership? How can a successful partnership be formed? And how can it work toprotect wildlife habitat?

In order to help answer these questions, three case studies of successful partnerships were conducted. Although these three examples do not cover the entire spectrum and structures of partnerships, they do represent diversity in geography, focal species, partnership structure, duration, and activities. Using examples from these case studies, best practices for partnership are highlighted.
