Alaska’s Wolves and Bears under Fire within National Park Land
Since 1992, the Alaska Board of Game has used the state Intensive Management law to manipulate populations of wolves and bears at Lake Clark, Katmai, Wrangell-St. Elias and Denali National Preserves in order to increase moose and caribou populations for human consumption. This type of intensive management practice, similar to predator control, is not allowed on National Park Service lands.
Listed here, park-by-park, are maps showing Game Management Units located within national preserves that summarize how wolf and brown bear hunting rules have changed over time.
