State of America's National Parks Map
America’s national parks are home to nearly 27,000 historic buildings, 3,500 historic statues and monuments, an estimated 2 million archaeological sites, and 123 million museum objects and archival documents. They also contain some of our country’s most striking natural features and fascinating plants and animals. Want to know how these incredible cultural and natural resources are faring? Click on the pushpins below (yellow pins are cultural resource topics and blue pins are natural resource topics) to learn more about the challenges facing our national parks and some of the ways Park Service staff are addressing those challenges.
The information in the map comes from the Center for Park Research’s State of America’s National Parks report. Released in summer 2011, the report is an analysis of the Center’s 80 individual national park resource assessments as well as additional information that the Center collected.
